Hashgacha

Supervision Guidelines

  1. Halachic supervision is required at all stages of fertility treatment (including sperm assessments, egg freezing and retrievals, fertilisation checks, and embryo transfers).
  2. Supervision is provided at most fertility clinics in the Gauteng and Cape Town.
  3. Supervision is not provided over Shabbat and Yom Tov, therefore no pickups, fertilisation checks or transfers should be scheduled over Shabbat or Yom Tov.
  4. In exceptional circumstances, it is only possible to arrange supervision for treatments taking place at the Vitalab Clinic, Gauteng.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Sufficient notice must be provided to ensure that a mashgicha is present at the procedure, otherwise supervision may not be able to be arranged.
  2. The client is required to contact SHIFRA immediately following the first scan or when a rough estimate of the projected time for egg retrieval is given.
  3. When a final date for egg retrieval is determined, SHIFRA must be notified immediately.
  4. Sperm samples may only be given to the mashgiacha or to the lab technician in the presence of the mashgiacha.
  5. Payment for hashgacha is made directly by the Malka Ella Fertility Fund to the mashgicha. Clients are strongly encouraged to contribute towards this cost.
