Treatments Funded

The Malka Ella Fertility Fund provides financial assistance for a wide range of fertility treatments and reproductive care. Funding is available for general fertility treatments, including timed cycles, Artificial Insemination (AI), In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), as well as Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy (PGT-A), and Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Monogenic Disorders (PGT-M).

Funding applications for egg donation, sperm donation, surrogacy, and adoption are considered on an individual basis and assessed in accordance with the Malka Ella Fertility Fund's eligibility criteria, funding guidelines, and approval from the Johannesburg Beth Din.


Funding Criteria

To qualify for assistance, the following criteria must be met:

  1. The couple must be halachically married by a Rabbi in an Orthodox Jewish ceremony.
  2. The couple must complete a confidential financial assessment.
  3. The couple must meet with the Malka Ella counsellor prior to the application being processed.
  4. The Malka Ella Rabbi is required to sign off the procedure.
  5. All procedures require supervision and must be performed in a halachically acceptable manner.

Terms and Conditions

Conditions of receipt of funds from the Malka Ella Fertility Fund are:

  1. The woman needs to attend the mikveh before the required procedure.
  2. A Malka Ella appointed mashgicha must be present in the laboratory at all times when procedures are being performed.
  3. Sufficient notice must be provided to SHIFRA (Malka Ella division in charge of supervision), to ensure that a mashgicha is present at all procedures. The Fund will not pay for any procedures that are not supervised.
  4. No procedures may be done on Shabbat or Yom Tov.
  5. Funding and financial decisions are at the sole discretion of the coordinators of the Fund.
  6. Financial assistance is only considered for expenses directly related to fertility procedures and not covered by the couple's medical aid.
  7. All payments are made directly to the doctor or hospital, and will only be actioned once a written quote or invoice is provided.
  8. Permission is given to the Fund to make contact with the treating doctor to discuss individual cases.
  9. The couple must inform the Fund once a result is known.
  10. Once a positive pregnancy result has been obtained, no further expenses will be paid.

All information provided to the Fund is handled in the strictest confidence.
