UNDER MY FATHER’S SHAWL

Size Framed: 1285 x 665mm
Medium: Oil on canvas

In this artwork, the artist conveys one of her warmest childhood memories, standing under her father’s tallit (prayer shawl), crouched with her siblings under his hands, as he recited the priestly blessing on Yom Tov. For the artist it was a moment of pride and privilege, and also a symbol of my father’s love for his children. The tallit is symbol of heritage, childhood, connection to family and lineage and pride. The artist felt compelled to draw the tallit and revel in the painting of its folds as there is not greater depiction of a soul yearning for G-d than that of a man wrapped in a prayer shawl.
