Medium: Handwoven semi-sculptural assemblages – dressmaking offcuts, artificial pearls, and domestic objects
In this artwork, the artist creates handwoven semi-sculptural assemblages which encourage viewers to touch, engage, and experience. The eclectic mix of dressmaking offcuts, artificial pearls, and other domestic objects pay homage to the scraps that the artist’s “Bobba’s” generation of fierce women salvaged, to acknowledge their suffering and ultimate survival. The artist used weaving which is a proudly feminine mode of making that is also regenerative, as it creates personal identification and spaces of belonging.
