Shirli Sergay was born in 1933 in Johannesburg. When Shirli was 11, her dad noticed her artistic abilities and despite the war, sent her to art school when she was only 17 years old. Shirli went on to obtain degrees in Fine Art, Social Work, and Interior design. Shirli and her husband Barry, lived on a farm in Kwazulu Natal for over 20 years where she explored weaving, glass making, crocheting and painting. Shirli has designed the interiors of Government buildings, been commissioned to paint giant murals at welfare homes, has held solo exhibitions, and has sold her work locally and internationally.
