Unframed

1200 x 800mm

This extraordinary collaborative artwork was created one stroke at a time by visitors to the Malka Ella Art Exhibition (Johannesburg, 16 – 19 August 2026). Each person contributed a single figure to a larger story, creating a powerful depiction of the Jewish people journeying through the parted waters of the Red Sea.

Inspired by the powerful story of the Exodus, the artwork speaks to the power of faith, community and collective action. Faced with what seemed impossible, a people stepped forward together, trusting that a way would open.

Each individual figure represents one person on the journey, reminding us that no one walks alone. Together, their many steps become one extraordinary journey — a journey through miracles.

REFRAME invites us to look again and see possibility where we once saw obstacles. This artwork reminds us that sometimes, when we take that first step in faith, the way opens before us.
