In this artwork, the artist wishes to convey the multi-functional and self-expressive place that shoes hold in society. As a nation, we exist, still as travellers. What roads have we each walked, what challenges and choices have we had to make and experience. The paths chosen before us and the paths we choose are our legacy and heritage – do we wander around in solidarity or exclusivity? From a bird’s-eye view, the charcoal navigates the texture, tone and gesture of the shoes, giving them a tactile quality, referencing the passage of time, heritage, and direction.
