About this piece

In Between Opening and Closing, the artist reflects on the emotional journey of leaving a hometown and beginning again in a new place. It reflects on memory as something unstable and fragmented — not a fixed archive, but a shifting field shaped by distance, loss, and time. At the centre of the artwork is a window through which planting can be seen only because the glass is broken. The fracture becomes both wound and opening, revealing growth through absence and damage. The old, cracked surface speaks of endings, obsolescence, and what has been left behind, while the new life beyond it suggests arrival, renewal, and possibility. The weathered surface speaks of memory, change, and what has been left behind, while the flourishing landscape beyond suggests hope and new beginnings.
