About this piece
In Echoes in the Valley, the artist integrates two-dimensional architectural drawings—including plans, sections, and elevations of historic South African synagogues—into the textured walls of a Jerusalem Old City passage. Emerging and disappearing like fragments of memory, these architectural forms suggest that sacred space extends beyond physical location and is sustained through history, faith, and remembrance. Shadows become repositories of memory, while stone carries the echoes of prayer. By embedding architectural heritage within the Jerusalem streetscape, the work reframes architecture as a living testament to Jewish continuity, resilience, longing, and the enduring connection between past and present.
