About this piece

In Contained Memories, the artist reframes an ordinary tin of sardines, transforming a familiar object of nourishment into a vessel of memory and personal meaning. Often associated with survival and economy, as a container of memory. For some a tin like this holds reminders of student years, financial hardship, comfort, and resilience. For others, it recalls shared experiences like spreading sardines on toast at a family table, picnics, conversations, inherited food rituals, cultural identity passed down through small, everyday meals. By shifting the lens from necessity to narrative, the work reframes sustenance as something deeply personal and collectively remembered.
