Lorraine Marcus
PLAKA DISTRICT IN ATHENS
No. of pieces: 1
Size: 76cm x 91.3cm
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Plaka District in Athens portrays the character of a Plaka flea market. The vibrant colours represent Marcus’ expressive imaginings, as this work originates in the gaps between memory and imagination. The figure is intended to be reminiscent of – and encapsulate – the people of Athens, which Marcus sought to capture in his expression. This painting explores pure alive-ness, as the artist found herself within a new climate and culture that she enjoyed, respected and through which she truly understood the powers of complement and contrast. Marcus developed a profound understanding of the sameness of humanity – our experiences and emotions.
