In this work, “Into the Light”, Lynda uses the essential element of painting – the brushstroke – rows of parallel marks to form a textured surface. There is a quality of mysterious calligraphy in this journey of time and space; the rhythm of the hand, heart and breath, as a meditation of painting on a surface. In the inevitable traumas of life, the artist seeks refuge in this practice. Sandpapering the format reveals amorphous shapes in which she sees images that refer to struggle, but moreso, to hope and a way forward that she seeks. Here, at the bottom of the work – a bird forages, foliage is dry and a flower withered. However, in the emerging sunshine, leaves sprout, blooms flourish and birds take flight and unite under the bright sky. In this process, Linda finds the renewal and revival of her life.
