A Jewish wedding is a tapestry woven together by many threads – biblical, historical, mystical and legal. Threads form a chain of Jewish continuity which goes back more than 3800 years. The purpose for the creation of marriage is stated in the words “It is not good for man to be alone”. In The Dress, 1925, we see the threading together of a man and a woman into the one soul they were created to be. The link between all the past generations and all the future generations. The bride’s dress represents the weaving of hopes and desires for the future together with the threads of all that came before, holding the power of the past and the sacred potential of creation together.
