Alison Charne
Elisheva

Winning Bid: R 5,500.00

Size Framed: 840 x 600mm
Medium: Mixed media, acrylic, pen and collage

In this artwork, “Elisheva”, Allison pays tribute to her mother who converted to Judaism and finally found her place of belonging in the Jewish nation. The peacocks on either side depict Allison and her brother who were just 7 and 2 at the time of her mother’s conversion. The pomegranates, which illustrate the artists own 7 year struggle with infertility are also represented by the peacocks – her twins. The Shabbas candles are symbolic of her mother’s devotion to Judaism, while the lady’s jewellery and flowers serve as a reminder of a traditional Jewish Yemenite wedding that Allison participated in when she visited Israel. The flowers also serve as a tribute to the deep appreciation her step father had for her mother. Lastly, even though Allison’s mother has passed away and is with Hashem’s angels, she watches over her family and protects them and her legacy lives on in her children and grandchildren.
